The socioeconomic situation in Tunisia is alarming, marked by high levels of poverty, unemployment, and a lack of prospects. Between 2011 and 2019, there was a significant economic stagnation, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.
These circumstances are particularly challenging for children with special needs, such as those requiring special education support. They often experience difficulties in areas such as thinking, understanding, learning, language, communication, sensory perception, and emotional regulation. Their access to leisure activities and education is often limited, reducing their chances of a secure future. They frequently struggle to keep up with schooling and social interactions.
Sport represents a crucial (social) resource for these children, promoting both health and social integration. However, due to lacking opportunities, financial constraints within families, a shortage of trained professionals, and inadequate infrastructure, many children with special education needs are excluded from sports programs. Therefore, we advocate for sports programs specifically tailored to children with special education needs.
The project aims to pave the way for social inclusion and improvement of the quality of life for children and adolescents with various special education needs.
